Just upgraded from Win ME to XP (prof) and have a Yamaha CRW2200E (E-IDE & just a CDRW, but may throw away and get a DVD+/-) Burner and accompanying Nero software. Comp is a 1500 Athlon & 256 DDR mem. Tried using burner after upgrade and part-way through burning, it stopped, or rather it appeared to be responding but after an hour it wasn't. Was attempting to put pictures (jpg) on a CD. Tried MP3's and same occurred (have a small pile of knackered CDs growing slowly!!).

I found a firmware upgrade on the Yamaha page and used that. No difference, still stopped part-way through a burn.

Searched for an "XP" driver, but can't see any, althought my system & Windows generated IDE driver say all is OK.

The Nero system appears OK, so don't know if I have a Yamaha Burner problem, Nero problem or an XP problem ??

Any suggestions ??

Trev,

Do you have any other burning software you could try?

...also did you have nero installed under ME and then *upgrade* rather than re-install the O/S from scratch? If so... try removing nero and re-installing it...

Are there any tests that you can run via Nero to chack the burning capability?

Hi Karl,

Sorry for delay, been "off-line" trying all permutations, not getting anywhere !!

Removed, reinstalled NERO (with Virus checker off), but having problems getting it to run without coming up with "Serial number please"!!

Believe XP has burning software built-in, but don't know if it may be clashing with NERO ??

Also XP is taking 2/3 minutes from screen-saver showing to allow any "programs to run??

Think I have an XP prob ??

Nero loading but won't let me do speed checks via toolkit. I'll keep trying to re-load.

Still don't know if Nero or XP or burner ??
