Hi guys, hope you can help me !

Im off to look at an M5 2005 with 16,000 Kms on the clock. Costing me 40,000 Euros. Im out in spain and it seams cheap compared to most othere on coches.net.

What if anything do i need to look for ? I belever there were some cluch and smg box issues on the early M5´s also a stering recall ?

Im quite nervious about buying a demic and it costing me a fortune.

I currently have a e 320cdi with all the kit but its miloage is getting on and the dealer has offered me 20k agansed the m5.

Just want a check list if possible

I've not got much in the way of specific M5 knowledge but with all cars of this type I'd have a good look at when the next set of consumables are up for replacement and whether the service history is up to date.

Discs, pad & tyres are all extremely expensive - so factor these into the price if they need doing.

That said, at that mileage I'd expect the brakes to be more than fine but possibly it might need some new boots.

At 4 years old I'd want it to have had a couple of services too by now - even if it hasn't done the mileage required.

I'm really no expert though, so just me 2pence worth....

Cheers

Would anybody have it serviced though if the OBC is telling them it doesn't need it?

Yeah, that's a fair point. But isn't it mileage based and/or every 2 years? i.e. it has to be done every 2 years regardless of mileage. I could be wrong.

No, it's conditionally based.

the steering recall was actually for a sensor that detected the wheel angle from memory. It affected the operation of DSC.

there has not been an SMG recall, but there was a recall for VANOS oil pipes or something on those lines for early cars, of which this would be one.
