Just to prove that not all requests on the forum for info on buying a particular car are hocum, I put in a request to find a good E36 318iS a few months ago and could not find one, so in the end bought a standard 1992 320i Coupe Auto.

Has anyone had practical experience of running this model in order that I can try and avoid potential problems?

Any recommendations for BMW specialists dealing in "older" cars in Dorset?

Happy Xmas!

Kartechnic on Hatchpond road, Nuffield ind est or Williams Automotive on Telford Road, Ferndown ind est. Either should be able to sort you for service/repairs both run by ex main dealer techies. Have used Williams myself and found them excellent and one of the guys that works for me has used Kartechnic to sort his M3...

Have now done 23000 miles in 7 months with this £1100 car. One breakdown that was my fault (got blasse about checking water, but switched off before damage occurred)that cost £80 to sort was only blemish on a perfect copy book.

E36 BMW coupe as a banger is IMHO a superb choice.

i'm running a '98 e36 318is. good car bought 18 months ago for £1600.00. cost me £500 to get it through the mot & another £500 for a new cat a few weeks later.

its my first bmw & wont be the last. a good car which will soon go & be replaced by, i think, a 5 series saloon.

quite fancy a 540i however not sure about the running costs.

Glad to hear it's going well.

Out of interest what's the economy like? The 2.0 litre always gets a bad rep of being neither particularly powerful or economical. Sounds ace though!

MPG is c30MPG. Not great, but not the disaster I had (also) been led to believe.
