I've just tried it, it made me feel like spiderman...

It's normally office shirkers, who can look at the time without alerting everyone else they are bored to tears...

Isn't it a military thing as well though, something to do with checking the time with the minimum arm movement, also minimising the chance of reflection off the watch face.

Quite possibly but the only person I see doing it regularly works in our Finance department hehe

The reason I wear my watch with the face inwards is because it's much more comfortable when riding a motorbike as the crown can dig in to the back of my hand under heavy braking.

If you want to make a statement, wear two watches (one on each wrist!)

It's probably the best way to wear one on paper, just not very sensible if you're a desk jockey were it can make you look a bit of a Walter Mitty.

I'd have thought that'd damage it more?

Yup - still wasn't common in the military but that is where I learned the habit.

It does tend to scratch up the face of the watch though.

I'd imagine it's a comfort thing if your wrists are ever bent backwards like, say, accelerating on a bike or doing a pushup. It could also just be a personal taste thing- having a watch on your wrist at all was seen as pretty effemenite back in the day.

... is only ever performed whilst executing a Frenchmans wave.

Someone on here posted their drivers watch, to be worn on the *side* of the wrist. The face is also rotated 90 degrees in order to read it whilst circumnavigating the Nordschleife with white knuckles. This kind of behaviour is acceptable.

My Dad wears his watch on the inside, a throwback from when he was farming and kept smashing the glass on things, it is now a habit

I occasionally do this, but only when working on some of the god awful (built in house)shop floor machinery and I'm having to thread my hand through nest after nest of wires and pneumatic piping. I find the watch doesn't snag as much. Although I generally end up taking it off after 10 minutes rolleyes
