Thought i'd share with you guys what I have been going through for the past 2 weeks.
Started a week past Friday with another bout of Athlete's foot - no biggie as I get it now and then. Put some Daktarin on and forgot about it.
Saturday morning, notice a little white spot between 2 smallest toes and foot insanely itchy. Was going to Depeche Mode concert at night so got my mate to drive and danced one footed all night
Foot really itchy on the way home but still never thought anything else about it.
Woke up Sunday morning to this...
Phoned NHS24 and went to docs - was told the crack in the skin from Athletes Foot had gotten infected and I had Cellulitis.
Was prescribed a course of Flucloxicillin - big beasties!
2 days later, it's at this stage...
Went back to the docs and it was touch and go whether i'd have to go into hospital for intravaneous antibiotics but they tried a course of Penicillin alongside the Fluclox first. On top of the other tablets i'm on, this meant 17 tablets a day! :ROFL:
Thankfully things have started to improve, but not until some bits fell off...
Today is the first day in 12 that I have been able to wear a shoe, and the first for 13 that I could drive.
Still going to be on the antibiotics for another 8 days or so but happy things are getting back to normal - not a nice experience!

I had it in my leg a few years back and did actually end up on IV antibiotics for 2 days.
No thanks to my local NHS Direct walk in centre who said it was nothing to worry about.
What, like losing a leg's nothing to worry about?
Mind you, yours does look like it might be stinging a little....

I've got it right now. Have no idea where it came from, honestly, but on Thursday, I had lunch then within about an hour, I was throwing up. Thought I'd eaten something strange but the following morning, woke up with a huge red rash on my shin, stayed in bed all day then yesterday, woke up with shooting pains in my upper inside thigh.
Mate who's a nurse suggested A & E so chanced it in there last night and was prescribed Flucoxacillin (sp). The rash has just started to appear on my thigh and it's bloody painful. Not at all helped by people thinking I've got cellulite....

Over Christmas last year for me. Wife made me phone NHS direct who asked was it 20p size, 50p etc and I said it was bigger than my hand. On my side lower down than armpit. Went to a 24hr walking wounded place and antibiotics eventually got it to calm. Then it discharged overnight one night and left a hole that needed to be 'packed' for about 3 weeks. Cause unknown, didn't appear to be a bite/scrape or anything.
Bloomin' rotten. Best wishes OP for a speedy recovery.

I had Flucloxacillin, admitted to hospital 24hrs later. I'd forgotten my penicillin allergy. Had it myself many years ago and nearly lost my left leg according to the consultant! Think it started from an insect bite one summer when I was working away and I scratched it with my dirty finger nails and that's how it got infected. I ignored it for several weeks until it got to the point where I couldn't get my sock or shoe on and nearly all my leg below my knee was purple (the bite was just above my ankle). The pain was unbearable so finally caved in and went to see the doc. Within 2 mins of him seeing it he'd called an ambulance 
to take me to hospital. I was in for nearly 3 weeks on what seemed to be endless IV drips with the taps fully open (that's how it felt as I could feel the cold liquid travelling along my veins) and it didn't show signs of subsiding til the 2nd week.

t - do not ignore! I had it in/ on my ear a couple of weeks ago. The ear was twice it’s normal size & still swelling & I was rough to put it mildly. The pain was the worst i’ve ever experienced.
After much persuasion, my wife drove me to see the duty doctor at the local A&E who took my temp & pulse, then took me straight through to the emergency area.
I had tachycardia (resting pulse of 120) & was put straight on to intravenous antibiotics, followed by full blood test & ecg.
Several hours later, I was allowed to go home as long as I promised to come straight back if things got worse (I only live 5 mins from the hospital).
I took combination antibiotics for another 10 days & am only just getting back to normal now.
It’s a nasty infection and can spread quickly, so if you’ve even the slightest doubt, get it checked out.

I had it back in about 2006, after an Ankle blister got infected. Couldn’t put any weight on my leg for nearly a week. Also had those massive pills.
As others said, it’s nasty and not to be trifled with.
Mind you, in 2004 I had lymphangitis. That developed from an insect bite and very quickly resulted in a red stripe travelling up my arm.
I had a very fast ambulance ride into the hospital in Athens (was working there) and was kept in for a couple of days.
That too was nasty and also potentially dangerous, although I didn’t feel that ill by comparison to the cellulitis.

Well I’ve been on the antibiotics for a week now and ran out yesterday. Rash on the shin has 90% gone now but still a pain in the thigh. No rash but felt a medium sized lump there yesterday.
Made appointment to see Doc today for repeat prescription and mentioned the lump. She (and she was gorgeous) got me to lie on the couch and started massaging my inner thigh around where the lump was. It was all I could do not to, er, show a reaction to her hands, especially when she got even closer to check my glands weren’t up!

Resurrecting the thread in case anyone has had similar -
Family member has just been taken into hospital for cellulitis affecting the face along with sepsis (not too sure if those two just go hand in hand anyway). The symptoms appeared 3 days ago.
They have been taking major antibiotics given by local docs since yesterday and intravenously since arriving in hospitalrhis afternoon.
They are talking of operating tonight to cut out the worst of the dead skin.
I haven’t seen family member since Sunday and all was well.
I’m hoping to visit tomorrow but they don’t really want visitors seeing them in such a mess.
It all sounds a bit worrying at how fast it’s happened. Can anyone give any hope if you’ve known anyone had similar happen?

Sister has been diagnosed with orbital cellulitis , it has occurred 3 or 4 times in the past 18 months , the consultant has 3 similar cases and thinks its due to each patient having problems with arthritis , all other causation has been ruled out. Bit of a mystery but worrying for her , usually sorted with mega dose of antibiotics
