Some fool hit the front of my 97, 4l X300 and kindly drove off without leaving a note. The front wing is damaged right at the front, basically pushed in around the light cluster but beyond that, nothing too serious.

A mate and I have decided we might try to replace the wing ourselves as it might be an interesting project for a day or two. I am an idiot with such things but he generally knows his stuff.

It looks like the wing is simply bolted on. Is that the case? Does anyone have any kindof workshop guide we can take a look at to see or know where I can aquire or buy such a thing?

Finally, anyone know where I can get a wing for a decent price?! Found a couple at breakers yards for under £100 including one that appears to be in the correct colour. Is that a good bet?

Way I see it is that even if we mess up, we are not going to make the job any worse for a body shop so might as well have a go as it never hurts to learn how to do such a thing.

Thoughts, suggestions etc much appreciated!

Not too sure about on a Jag, but me and a mate fitted a scrap yard sourced wing to an Astra in around an hour and half. Came in the right colour, and was quite easy to do, bolts are normally along wing top under the bonnet, down the inside of the door, bit tight to get at, even with the door wide open, then i'd remove the sill trim, was 2 under there on the Vaux, could be a weld on the Jag? The obviously bumper and headlamp off for the remaining few.

Good luck!

(PS - Astra wing was £15, for 1999 car, none metalic. Was the original or genuine replacement too) smile

I'd recommend Eurojag for the wing. Probably around £75 and you might get a newer X308 wing, hopefully in the same colour. I'm sure the x300 and x308 are exactly the same, but check anyway. I'd probably try other breakers too just to get the same colour because painting the wing could be upwards of £100.
The X300 wing is the easiest wing I've ever had to remove. First remove the plastic liner by pulling down out the plastic 'pins' from their larger circular plastic clips. Ask the breaker for a handfull of replacements as these often get ruined on removal. With the liner removed you need to reach behind the wing and find the (10mm?) bolts that fix it to the car. There's one on the top edge of the sill. One near the A post. And one behind the headlamps. I think that's them all behind the wing. Finally, remove the row of bolts along the top. You can unclip the side repeater indicator now.
If you are lucky you will not have broken any of the bolts on the inside of the wing. If like me, one snapped, you need to buy 'rivnuts'. I think I bought M6 ones that will require drilling a 10mm hole in which to fit them back on the car. Normally rivnuts need a special often expensive tool to fit them, however, I found a cheap easy fix here http://www.x-eng.co.uk/rivnut.asp
This job shouldn't take long - an hour if all goes well? Good luck.

Edit: Forgot about the bumper mount - I have x308 bumpers on my car which have a bit more flex in them I believe. From memmory, I had to remove the bumper mount just to lower the corner of the bumper to get a socket on the bolt behind the headlamps.
