Israel has admitted that in the 1990s, its forensic pathologists harvested organs from Palestinians.

Military confirms informal practice, claims it ‘does not happen anymore’ - yeh right.

I doubt anyone else needed to... the global economy and all, I expect Israel was selling organs to the West throughout that time.

I expect some were alive up to the point of their donation. Skin harvesting sounds like a torture technique which I wouldnt put past them.

British hospitals removed organs, bone and tissues from deceased patients without obtaining permission in advance from the deceased or the next of kin. The Alder Hay hospital became the main target of investiagtive journalists on this issue.

I'm sure most of the "victims" were British but there might have been the odd foreigner included - I mean, why discriminate?

Its a good job the british hospitals wernt in a position where they could abduct and imprison thousands of healthy people to meet any demand.

Slight difference between Alder Hey, the organs harvested there were kept as specimens for study purposes, which doesn't justify it, whereas here the organs were donated to Israeli citizens for therapeutic use. Both cases are equally reprehensible, without consent.

The Channel 2 report said that in the 1990s, forensic specialists at Abu Kabir harvested skin, corneas, heart valves and bones from the bodies of Israeli soldiers, Israeli citizens, Palestinians and foreign workers, often without permission from relatives.

Thats just wrong

Are you claiming that they took organs from LIVE people, or killed them in order to obtain those organs?

If that is indeed the case, then that is a crime against humanity.

On the other hand, making use of the bodies of people who have died in combat or in a "war" type situation is not anything like as awful. Obviously, the matter of consent is important but that is more a medical ethics issue rather than a criminal issue.

Someone is dead, not coming back, better to use their organs to help people as what is left is only going to scooped up and dropped into a wooden box to be either burnt and fed to the worms underground

Who's decision is that to make - the families, or the people working in the institution?

No, sorry, that's not acceptable. Whatever your views on organ donation (and mine is that it should be compulsory, and only opted out of) if no consent has been obtained, it is not acceptable to take such action. The Alder Hey scandal demonstrated the public revulsion of such acts.

By definition that is a criminal issue. Accepting such practices opens the gateway for decisions being made contrary to the agreement of individuals, hence disregarding their rights. It's perhaps the MOST serious issue in medicine.
