My Brother-in-Law has had the drivers door and passenger door deeply keyed (same side). Paint shop at main dealer quoted around 2.5K whilst another 'quality' repairer said 2K. Is there an more economical fix to this damage without it looking bodged? It seems an huge amount of cash to layout for two full lentgh panel keyed damage.

That sounds way to expensive eek

Unless the damage is very deep and the car is wearing some TVR type reflex colour (£500 plus a litre for some colours) then it should be alot less than the quote .

Get a few pics , or post what car colour etc , will help to round it down a little wink

That response is to prod him towards an insurance claim, and as kelly says, unless the paint is very unusual, it's vastly over-inflated.

With no denting, even if the adjoining panels need blending, repairs to a 2-panel keyscratch should be three figures, not four, on any standard finish.

Thanks for that guys, I suggested to him it was OTT but he is the sort of chap who is wary of most things to do with money. He won't claim on insurance. The car is an basic colour of grey, nothing fancy but the keying is down to the prime coat by looks of it.

take it to another bodyshop until someone gives a reasonable quote. i would be expecting to pay about £300 per panel.

i had large dents taken out of a brand new focus and had the door and rear quarter and handles/ mouldings etc painted and it cost me £800.

sounds very pricey. I was quoted 4000 pounds by Land Rover to spray nine keyed panels on my Discovery 3. I declined.

£400 per panel is still over the odds.
Things might be different on the mainland, but over here in NI, good repairers would charge £150 per panel, so he'd be looking £400-£500 max, including bending into the front wing, and the rear 1/4 panel.
If it's not a heavy metallic grey, then it should be even less.

That's a very cheap, back-street independent shop repair price over here. A main dealer or prestige bodyshop can be £650+VAT per panel (and very occasionally higher).

Given it's a 2 panel scratch possibly blending a further two panels, someone with decent qualifications/experience and facilities is unlikely charge £400 to paint essentially the side of a car, at least in this part of the country. You might get a Fred-in-a-shed cash deal, no comeback, no warranty arrangement for that. Unlikely to satisfy an enthusiast though. NI prices must be good for car owners!
