mileometer stopped

Mileometer stopped as it turned to 70k speedo still works but it is due for mot in fortnight any ideas?.
sorry chaps forgot to say it is a 96 chim

Yep normal, they tend to stick at any 9999.
To fix, when driving keep pushing your trip meter button repeately and give the speedo meter some enthousiatic thumps.

Do you need a functioning speedo to pass the MOT ?

Neither speedo or odometer are required to be working for the MOT so its not urgent.

You *may* find that tapping the front of the dial hard while driving frees it up. Or sometimes pressing the trip reset in while on the move frees it up.

If neither of these work then its dash off, speedo out and send it off to speedy cables. Expect a wait of 1-6 weeks before its returned though. Get the MOT sorted first then remove and send off.

mine occasionally syicks as it goes over from 999 miles - as posted already, a good rap on the dial while moving, does the trick.
