I was looking forward to it, but was disappointed. I loved the Royle Family when it first came out, but the last couple of Christmas Specials have been terrible. It used to be very clever and quite subtle in places, but now you can see the jokes coming a mile off. I wish they'd stopped after the Nana dying episode; it was the perfect ending.

Had its day imo, funny in parts but also just more of the same and a bit too gross.

Way too drawn out and the last few specials have been awful.

It's just not funny anymore.

It was decent enough, I haven't seen any other nes Xmas specials advertised though, it was only this and the Top Gear South American special that have registered on my Xmas TV radar.

Is there anything else?

'Outnumbered' is on at 22:30 on the 27th - might be worth a watch?

I agree - an entire show devoted to 'nan' was just too much, IMO.

And whilst there were a few moments in The Royle Family which did make me laugh out loud, it did have a rather tired (and contrived) feel to it. Shame, considering how it used to be.

Jumped the shark when the baby came along. Been going downhill since then.

Thought it was awful, didn't even raise a smile - repeated the same old cliched jokes.

'Nan' was just almost as tragic - rescued by David Tennant

Royle Family wasn't great really. Only Jim's rants worth watching and even then it's same old. I just want to stove Denise and Daves heads in, they irritate me so much. Fell asleep part way through.

I really liked it when it first came out but the subtleties it picked up so well on are only funny for so long and when they are too in your face it just doesn't work at all. The only bit I really laughed was the main punchline.

There weren't really any moving scenes too which are essential to balance off the rest of the show.

Should have left it at Nana's death which was very touching.

Saw about 30seconds of Catherine Tate which I hate anyway.

Other then that we had a TV free day which is strange as there are usually a few things that family want to watch and this year no one was at all bothered and we had a fuller house then ever.

?

Anyway I know this gets said every year but 2009 is truly the worst year for Xmas TV ever. There is literally nothing.

Mostly contrived rubbish IMO.

And a glaring error was 'The Last Waltz' which didn't even exist 50 years ago.

The scene with the old coot from next door banging on about the computer being in a bag was enough to promote a channel change.

Very weak indeed. I used to love it, it used to have lots of subtlety, now it slapstick rubbish, the remaining 'humour' is just more and more ridiculous OTT things for Dave and Denise to do/say. Nothing clever left.
