For your budget of £16-17k you'll be able to get a good cerb.
Both the 4.2 and 4.5 are blisteringly fast cars, the 4.5 is only quicker on paper, just buy the best Cerb you can get.
If I had your budget I'd spend a bit more and get this one, it's had all the work done and the money spent.

All the hard work has been done and well documented on this site.

I am in the same boat - there are not many about at the moment, the black 4.5 through rpm has had chassis repairs - the red 4.5 looks good

I have spoken to rob ingleby to try and find one for me - not much around at the moment. I would prefer a 4.5 at the end of the day, and that's what I am looking for. Have you thought about a speed six? Having spoken to dave at Automedon, he belives that the speed six in the Cerbera was much more reliable than in the other models it was used in. The oil delivery system incl filter etc was much better.

very litte in it- sounds great. Give Dave a call at Automedon, they have a show car speed six being sold by a client. With it being a show car, he sid it was better assembled etc- apparently a great car.

Speed Six here and more than happy with it.
Can't compare with the AJP as I haven't owned one, but I can say that
it is a cracking engine and plenty fast enough for me.
There are lots of SP6 in Sagaris, T350, Tamora and Tuscans
And no shortage of parts either or specialists to work on them.
At the end of the day it depends what is available at
The right price, spec and condition but do not discount it
As an option.

Hi - didnt understand your first post, hence lack of reply.
As was said earlier the black 4.5 RR has had repairs. Could be a good one though, worth a look and an inspection I guess.
RVT in Sheffield have got an (unadvertised) late blackish coloured S6 cerb. It looks amazing, worth an email to them?
It gets harder and harder to find a good one (for sale), so take your time. 16-17K will buy a good one.
What about the red one thats for sale here? Not my colour but apart from that it looks prety perfect?

I was always led to believe that the S6 cerbs were even worse (certainly back in v late 90's).

The above is at RT Racing in Sheffield, Richard Thorpe will have all the details you need.

I am working on what Dave at Automedon said, the majority of issues were with other cars, the oil delivery system was better on the cerb and also had a larger oil filter. They have said that they have had far fewer issues.

Ofcourse this is around the time the SP6 came into production. I think it is more or less accepted that 2003 onwards, most of the issues had been addresed. The very nature of both the SP6 and the AJP will mean at some point they will require engine work. If I had an AJP I would have money set aside for some work in the future and likewise I have the same money set aside for my SP6. At least we now have a number of specialists who seem to be doing good quality rebuilds an all engines types.

My 2001 sp6 had issues from 6,000 miles then after another 3,000 miles then after another 9,000 miles then in 2003 the head was changed to a new one with new a design and it is still ok to date with no problem. The early sp6 engines certainly did have problems and I saw that first hand at the factory. It is once sorted though a cracking engine, my car has now done over 56,000 miles.

It's only steel tube - once the body is off it's not exactly brain surgery! Given the general approach and eye to detail of that restoration I would give it serious consideration. Get it checked out properly but, with the best advice being to buy on condition rather than age / mileage, it's got to be worth a look.
