Freelander losing power/intermittent engine warning light
Discussion
Hi all,
Freelander (Td4) is a 53 plate, 170,000 miles, and today, when under load, the engine warning light flickered on, and there was a loss of power.
Eased off the throttle and the light went out, and could accelerate very gently, but could repeat engine light/loss of power any time the engine was under anything more than slight load.
Any ideas of common things which could cause this?
Googling has suggesteda few possible options, any thoughts/opinions?
Fuel pump failure from in-tank pickup?
Vaccuum issue/turbo pipe issue?
Thanks in advance...

I think the Intercooler pipe went a couple of years ago, with loss of power, but I don't think the engine light came on (just lots of soot out the back when trying to accelerate!).
Fuel pump did strike me as an option - I spotted a suggestion to keep the fuel topped up which helps the pressure for the pick-up pump.
It just feels sluggish, like a good hammer blow somewhere would fix it - if I only knew where

Split intercooler pipe?
or dead fuel pump, they have 2.
Both are quite common, probably a good place to start looking at least.
As above, my td4 has suffered from it and its hoses were split. I replaced all of them with silicone ones for £107. No more splitting issues but fitting can be an issue if the clamps are not facing the right way for you to get at them with a screwdriver etc.or dead fuel pump, they have 2.

Also fuel pump has went on mine, it went into limp mode and wouldnt rev or go above 30 so if your car does that then its the fuel pump. Otherwise, check all your hoses, The split at the 90 deg bend and on the hoses on the front left of the engine, there is a screw that rubs on a hose and eventually it will rub through the hose.
Quick thanks for responses, problem was the fuel pump, now replaced and working fine.
Freelander worth its weight in gold, and snow, over the last couple of weeks, after 6 years I actually used the hill descent control in anger on a steep snowy hill down to a T junction, and never missed a beat.
