Just saw an ad for a programme about the best shows of the Noughties being shown in a couple of days.

So how about we run our own first?

IMO, American export TV has improved immeasurably over the last ten years: West Wing, Madmen, Damages, Heroes etc, but let's keep this thread to British-made programmes.

So, which British-made TV programmes have had you glued to your screen over the last ten years?

In time honoured fashion, I'll start smile

(In no particular order)

1. Skins
2. Inbetweeners
3. Outnumbered
4. Green Wing
5. Thick of it
6. Red Riding
7. The Office
8. Peep Show
9. Grand Designs
...
...
erm...
...
10. Two pints of lager (I couldn't think of a tenth programme)

Even though there are multiple threads about how its on a downer I think TopGear would have to be on that list. The new format started in 2001 and it still draws a crowd. The production on it is great and its good entertainment.

I would also add Gavin and Stacey to the list! smile

I'd go with Shameless as well as add Life on Mars. How many people are uttering catch phrases by the main man, the Gene genie? wink

Emboldened to get the point across wink

Can't say we watch that much British made stuff anymore, but of the few we do it would have to include Skins (S1 & 2, didn't like S3 that much), The Office, Extras, The IT Crowd, Black Books and Spaced series 2 (love all of Spaced but series 1 was 1999). For current stuff it would have to be Outnumbered.

It had occured to me and was reasonably enjoyable but, like you said, was a joint production and aimed a little too much at the superficial American market for me to try and sneak it in.

Equally, 'The Tudors' was similarly ruined through the focus on the larger commercial audience.

If either new Doctor Who or new Top Gear can be counted, then they both have to be in there.

I can see Top Gear but Dr Who? OP, do you mean shows which were created/started in the 00's?

Just shows which were shown in the 00s; so you can certainly have Dr Who if he tickles your televisual tastebuds. Torchwood too, if you're partial to a bit of Cap'n Jack.

But Rome is predominantly British, most, if not all actors were British. IMHO, the highlight of the decade for TV shows, along with Battlestar Galactica, the first three seasons of Boston Legal and Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes.
