X-Type 2.5/3.0 AWD
Discussion
Considering a number of different cars at the moment, and the X-Type is one of them
I do about 6.5-7k a year, so fuel consumption is no issue.
I want AWD.
No preference over auto/manual.
I prefer the look of the estates, but wouldn't turn down a well specced, lower mileage saloon for the right price!
A few questions:
1. I want something that feels quite quick. I've had a few Volvo T5 cars before with 225-240bhp which felt brisk enough. Does the 230bhp 3.0 feel sprightly? Figures seem to suggest similar to the T5. How much slower in real life is the 2.5 compared to the 3.0?
2. Fuel consumption - not a big issue, but I'd like to know what to expect. Does 23-25mpg sound about right on average? I would be doing 95% of my mileage on country B roads.
3. Any known issues to look at with these cars?
4. I've read that the AWD system on the older (2001-2003) cars is better than the newer cars in adverse weather conditions.
My budget is around £5/6k, so it would appear that this would get me an older estate or a slightly newer saloon with average mileage.

We have a 3Lt Manual Estate X-Type
Very pleased with it, I agree the estate looks bettr than the saloon
Goes and feels quick, weel when I'm driving, not as quick when Vic is though!
MPG is about right
Transfet box is aknow issue, although we haven't had a problem
I don't know about the benifit of yearsd on the AWD
If there is a budget I would still go for the estate, as befor looksa and you can through more into it

Evening Norman; Thank you for the response and the information. I suspect it will be a saloon as the estates seem to be quite rare in 3.0 form with the options I desire (Most of them!) and we do not really need an estate. However, I shall keep my eyes open should one pop up.
I am outstanded that you can get a fully equipped 3.0 saloon with <60k for less than £4.5k.
Do you know of any useful Jaguar forums where I can obtain information about these cars?
Is yours an automatic or manual?

I agree estates tend to be oil burnersIs yours an automatic or manual?
We were verry lucky to find the 3Lt Manual 1 year old with FULL spec when we were looking a couple of years ago.
A couple of Forums, http://www.x-type.org.uk/ as well as the X-Type forum you can access as a member of the JEC at www.jec.org.uk
