In Germany a few years ago I was the only Brit in a sizeable group of people who, thanks to me and my linguistic inabilities, were all speaking English. In a lull in the conversation I said to one particular guy, "YOOO SPEEEEAK VEH-REE GOOOD ENG-GER-LISH."

He said, "Yes, I'm American."

Last time I was in Turkey the Taxi driver said to me:

"You speak very good English, Are you German?"

I once met an Australian in a pub in the US, I asked him what part of Australia he was from and got a quizzical look back, "Australia? I am from London mate!"

Up until that point i had always thought it was wierd that yanks thought i sounded Australian hehe

The ironic thing is this thread needs a facepalm.

My understanding is a facepalm is like an exasperated expression, like someone asking a stupid question or quoting MX5 or simples in threads or bringing up yet another "Unfunny comediens" thread. smile

Facepalm, level 6 as in 'Top level Facepalm'

That's my understanding, anyway

Has that been taken from Star Trek? 'cos if so, "facepalm" is now ruined!
