Apologies if you've seen it before
This is bizarre. Just try it, don't cheat and be honest, it's not a trick.
At the end of this message, you are asked a question. Answer it immediately. Don't stop and think about it.
Just say the first thing that pops into your mind.
This is a fun "test"... and kind of spooky at the same time!
Give it a try
Now, just follow the instructions as quickly as possible. Do not go to the next calculation before you have finished the previous one.
You do not ever need to write or remember the answers, just do it using your mind. You'll be surprised.
Start:
How much is: 15 + 6
3 + 56
89 + 2
12 + 53
75 + 26
25 + 52
63 + 32
I know! Calculations are hard work, but it's nearly over..
Come on, one more!
123 + 5
QUICK! THINK ABOUT A COLOUR AND A TOOL!
Scroll further to the bottom....
A bit more...
You just thought about a red hammer, didn't you?
If this is not your answer, you are among 2% of people who have a different, if not abnormal, mind. 98% of the folks would answer a red hammer while doing this exercise.
If you do not believe this, pass it around and you'll see.
So who's in the 2% minority then

I read the first question, 15+6 and decided the answer would be a grey elephant in Belgium.
I guess i was a little out!
edited- it was meant to be Denmark, so a double failure
maybe even a triple fail
"(2004-04-03) Grey Elephants in Denmark
Mental magic for classroom use... [Single-use collective mentalism]
The teacher tells the class that a crowd can be driven to think about the same thing; very few people will escape the mental picture shared by all others...
Each student in the class is asked to think about a small number and is then instructed to perform the following operations silently.
Double the number.
Add 8 to the result.
Divide the result by 2.
Subtract the original number...
Convert this into a letter of the alphabet. (1=A, 2=B, 3=C, 4=D, etc.)
Think of the name of a country which starts with this letter.
Think of an animal whose name starts with the country's second letter.
Think of the color of that animal...
The teacher then announces to a puzzled classroom that their collective thinking must have gone wrong, since "there are no grey elephants in Denmark"...
Well, there are elephants in Denmark: At this writing, the home of Kungrao (M), Surin (F) and Tonsak (F) is the Copenhagen Zoo...

Some interesting musings:
http://thelanguageguy.blogspot.com/2005/04/fun-lin...
Obviously the percentages supplied (98/2) are for effect. Otherwise I don't think there's much of a trick. Red is probably the most obvious colour: it's no accident the world's favourite footie team (just not Manchester's) have it as their colour, and a hammer is the most basic and odvious tool since caveman first hefted rock at something which was stuck.
Any better ideas?
