Voting study shows hung parliament is most likely result

&

Conservative leader David Cameron has used his new year message to call for the general election campaign to be a "good clean fight".
He said he wanted 2010 to be a year for "a new politics", and an election "free from fake political dividing lines".
Explaining this point, he urged the Liberal Democrats to focus on the similarities between their two parties.
Mr Cameron said there was a "lot less disagreement than there used to be" between his party and the Lib Dems.
"I don't think we should invent differences where there aren't differences," he said.

Dave doesn't seem very confident he can get a result does he.

Personally I'd like to see a hung parliament, the current system of representative democracy needs to be seen to have failed before it can be replaced.

If the Tories cannot win a landslide victory after the mess the socialist fascist movement has left the UK in, then there really is no hope at all.

Not good at all, and most of it is Cameron’s fault – too much attention paid to listening to spin doctors and minority pressure groups. Silly man.

This election won't be won on policies or traditional lines of support, it will be won by whichever party can overcome the apathy and dis-illusionment that the population currently feel towards the parties and actually, physically, cast a vote.

I am sure if Dave went on Big Brother or X Factor he could clock up the extra votes needed.

What would happen under this situation? UKIP and Conservatives join up?

I think there could be quite a few UKIP MPs. However these are not included in any of the polls, so I don't think anyone really knows what will happen.

I could also see with all the CO2 propaganda that the greens get a bit of an increase in support.

I would actually quite like to see a parliament made up equal shares of every party if we must stick to the system of party politics. It might encourage a bit more debate. However with the current MPs it would probably end up that every one plays the ego game and never back down. As their opinion is the correct one, so no compromise. Resulting in a country where bugger all gets done.

Have to say that as someone that (as a brit) is not eligable to vote due to being oversees, i am somewhat glad that i dont have to make the choise between the current shower of sts as an option.

CMD is light years ahead of Winky, but till not what you would call leadership material, never mind the rest of them, perhaps a hung parliament is (gulp) the best option...

There is no difference between CMD and Winky, their empty promises are just that, empty because Brussels will be running the show from now on in.

Parties do not win elections, they lose them. The result will depend on how viscerally the voting public loathe the incumbents. This motivates them to go to the polls and vote tactically for the party most likely to oust the thieving they hate so much.

Depressing isn't it. But that's politics.

So, on balance, I'm not expecting a hung parliament (although it could happen). I'm expecting something very, very different. The polls have been varying wildly but I doubt Fittster will get his wish. I rather admire the viewpoint that we should finally get proper democracy but

(1) I don't think it will ever happen
(2) It might be somewhat surprising if we did get it. Not quite sure how that would turn out.

I'd give it a go, happily, but I don't think we'll get it.

Hmm, well the betting markets don't agree I'm happy to say. I pay more attention to these prediction markets than polls or other studies. Effectively I listen to people who put their money where their mouths are. Over the last 2 months, the implied probability of a Conservative overall majority have come in from about 75% to 70%, but a hung parliament is still trading at about 3/1, i.e. 25% chance. If that article's right, there's a lot of money to be made. Thankfully, once again it appears to be a newspaper in hyping the news shocker.

Any of you who are scared of the Torys not managing to get an overall majority could always hedge you bets - lay them/sell the digital at 70...

Quite right, the Conservatives will get the majority. Too many people are angry with Brown and see Dave as the only sensible option to rescue us.

They're angry because they see all politicians as greedy, money grabbing, expense fiddling tossers, they still don't get it, the punters haven't forgotten. CMD has done sod all to redress that

Oh, has an early election been called? There is a pretty clear reason he is keeping quiet until then.

I sincerely hope you're right - another Labour term will be nothing less than catastrophic for the UK - or, at least, for people who earn a living...

I think we're all stuffed either way. Taxes will have to go up to get us out of this mess. Part of me (the twisted bit) would like to see Labour get in again. I'm not sure i can stand them standing over the despatch box for 5 years pointing the finger at the Tories when they put taxes up to sort out the mess.
