Hello,

Driving to work on 23/12/09 - all roads like a skate rink.

I couldn't get out of first and above 3 or 4mph for most of my 6 mile journey to work!

I was really bricking it the whole way - never known anything like it!

Cars sliding all over the place - plenty into hedges and each other!

Did we lose any more cerbs to the great british weather?

Not aware of any loses - why were you in first gear?

exactly. You should be starting off in 2nd. In fact I ventured out just once and had to use 3rd to move away as even 2nd was causing wheel spin.

Hopefully none will be lost this year...

I actually prefer to be in a lower gear in tricky conditions, if it slips, theres less of a speed difference to deal with and it is easier to judge/ control to me... I havent explained it well, but it is my preference.

Higher gears for me in slippy conditions.

At least that way if the car does skid any bit and my foot hits the accelerator harder than it should, the engine response won't be as quick and the car is less likely to go completely out of control.

That's just my theory but it hasn't failed me yet it over 20 years of driving.

No losses I've heard of thankfully, this time last year we'd already lost 4 or 5 IIRC.
