I have seen a car that matches what I am after but see it is listed as having press preparation, does anyone know what exactly this means?

I would imagine is has been used as a launch car/test car, therefore should be well maintained but probably has also been ragged.

Should I walk away, or use it to get a bit more off the price?

Its not always a negative... It means it was either a launch, display or test car.

You maybe able to get it's exact history from the dealer.

The positives are that generally they are better screwed together than standard cars as they are subject to additional quality controls when leaving the factory.

It used to be common practice that they would have hand picked engines which produced better than average power figures.

Might be worth looking at all the road tests for the Beemer you're interested in, just to see if you can spot this car.

Lets just hope it isn't the black Z4 that the fat bloke from the 'go compare' advert jumped all over... wink

Rang the dealer they weren't much help. Firstly said it was something to do with phone prep, then spoke to one of his collegues who came back saying it was a pack on launch cars, but couldn't name any of the extra equipment in the pack. They are ringing BMW tomorrow to find out more. Doesn't fill me with confidence seeing as they sell these for a living.

Pretty sure it's just a note for the factory that it's a press car (so it goes to more thorough quality tests etc.) and doesn't necessarily have any addition equipment. The spec will just be with the normal option codes.

In the old days it may have had things like door casings filled with expanding foam too.
