You should go for the piece of string alternative then. smile

Just push the cork into the bottle, then get a bit of string, tie a knot in it, push the string in past the cork, and then gently pull it back up until the knot gets trapped between the bottle and the bottom of the cork, then pull. No risk of breakage.

Second one is in a house, they tend to have spoons and such and can be used to force the cork in. Muppets biggrin

You can tap the top off with a heavy knife and strain the wine out through a filter in a tea leaf filter.
