If I focus on one point then recompose to shoot with a VR lens does moving the camera/lens confuse the VR and risk a blurred image? If I focus on an eye for instance and then move to compose should the VR be switched off?

I don't believe so at all.

Wherever you move the lens it should cope.

As far as I know the only VR downsides are battery drainage (which can be quite noticeable on a few hundred shots using a D2X and 70-200mm) and the fact that the lens will set up a series of vibrations such that on a tripod you'll actually create movement which wasn't there - hence switch it off.

(I'm actually not too sure whether you're better off with VR switched on or off on a monopod mind - a question I was thinking of asking this forum on a few days ago.....)

I think some of the newer lenses have a tripod mode don't they?
