Don't know if I should post this here, but, is anybody in the Carlton area-ish of Nottingham having trouble with NTL emails, as I've not received any for 3 days now, and usually get 80-110 per day.

The box up the road sometimes floods, which bu**ers both emails and Net access, but, as you can read, I've still got net access.

Any help gratefully received.

30 January 2004 17:06 ntl Home - All Packages - E-Mail Service
ntl:home internet customers on all packages may currently experience very slow connections or connection timeouts to our email servers when trying to send email at peak times. This is due to a dramatic increase in the volume of email being sent and received in the last few days due to the new and rapidly spreading MyDoom virus. ntl advises all customers to ensure they are using anti-virus software and that it is frequently updated.

Our engineers are currently working to reduce the impact of this virus as much as possible. The peak time at which you are most likely to experience problems is between approximately 4:30 and 9pm on weekdays, and afternoon to evenings at the weekend.

Latest update - This update created at 5:05pm on Friday January 30th 2004. Customers will currently be seeing email delays as previously mentioned as we are entering our peak time for email traffic. We currently expect the service to return to normal speed at approximately 9pm.

Unfortunately it doesn't make any mention of any e-mail outages in your area over the past three days, so it looks like your problem may be an isolated incident.

check out the Service Status page at www.ntl-isp.ntl.com/lookup/default.asp to see if their is any information that relates toyour particular problem.

Do you know how to get your NTL mail without downloading to Outlook etc?

If you don't, go to:

webmail.ntlworld.com

Type in your e-mail address and password and you can view your mail here. If you reply to any though, you will not save a copy (like you do in Sent items) unless you click 'Save a copy'. I generally bcc myself in these cases.

I get the page OK tonight. Make sure that you don't put anything before the webmail bit i.e. don't put on www or http or anything like that.

I'm at Long Eaton.

Just log on to ntlworld.com. Enter your email address and password on the right hand side of the home page and then check your inbox mail. Then tick/check the stuff you don't want and select delete to get rid of it.

I've had problems with ntl 'timing' me out when I have a lot of mail or mail with picture attachments. They only allow 1 minute to send it or they disconnect the pop 3 server. It's a pain but now I just log on direct and delete the crap.
