I used to run zonealarm in the past but I had to re-install windows and since then it hasn't worked.

If I install it, explorer cannot find anything and my outlook won't recieve any mail. The programs are set to allow in the preferences.

With these problems, I just forgot all about a firewall and used the internet bareback but I've just cleaned a virus that's got me worried.

I got a c:/DO.exe file which was identified as a downloader trojan, now cleaned, but I don't understand how it got there - I never open attachments from an e-mail, so only way it could have got there is if someone hacked in and put it there.

So, now I have to get zonealarm working again - any ideas?

Byff there are lots of ways of getting a virus without opening an email. If your security isn't up to date you can get a virus just by visiting a website which has java code to download a virus to your machine. Which version of Zonelabs are you trying to get to work the free one, or the paid for one? Visit this website and download HijackThis to a new directory on its own. Run HijackThis and post the log.
