As subject, it's a few degrees above freezing, most of the snow has melted completely yet there are all these tiny little patches of "crispy" snow in town and in the playing fields.

I await ridicule but I don't get why these tiny bits don't melt and seem to linger for a couple of days?

Because they used to be big lumps and ice/snow melts from the outside in so the big lumps have to get smaller before they can completely melt.

If you got some of this snow, and made it into a snowball, and then you stood on a conveyor belt and threw it, would it hit you in the face?

This is much like spitting chewing gum out of a convertable, get enough height and it rockets backwards in an amazing arc, not enoug height and it either rolls up your forehead and into the back seat or just hits the back seat......I guess...I've never tried it of course...
