Hi all,

We have recently purchased an 03 plate 330d auto touring. The misses uses it most of the time for shortish trips round town and 7-10 mile trips. We are only getting around 25mpg on the obc at the moment. I drove it the other day and reset the obc on a 10 mile run on b roads got it up to around 35-36 av. Is this about right for the car. It's just had a new low pressure fuel pump, fuel and air filter fitted and now seem to run and pull well. I think we get around 300-350 miles out of a tank.
Any comments on other peoples experience of this car would be appreciated.

Sounds about right for short journeys. The later generations of the diesels are a bit more economical.

I get the same in my manual, petrol 330 doing similar journeys. Would of thought a diesel would get slightly more!

Agree with this - I get better in my 330i (but it is the ED version).

Don't think the diesels do very well on short town work though...

Sticks.

I used to get 30 from mine on mainly short journeys (@5m) but 40 on M way. Slightly more than this in summer.

I used to get 26mpg from my E46 330d auto touring, and I also got 26mpg from my e39 530i auto m-sport.

Diesels hate short journeys, and they hate the cold even more, takes them a good 10 miles or 15 minutes to get to temperature.

I have a 3.2fsi quattro A6 avant at the moment and I was averaging 26mpg from that over the summer, over the last month it has dropped to 24mpg, however, I have just been lent a 3.0tdi for a week and round town on sub 5 mile journeys that is only seeing 23mpg, actually worse than my petrol!!
On a run it sees 36-38mpg though compared with me seeing 32-34mpg so it is better there, but not by much.
