Just moving some stuff around to make some space in the racks for new gear and have (reluctantly) decided to relegate a rather pristine (and nice) Teac cassette deck on the grounds it doesn't get used by me (model V5000).

Likely to be worth advertising or is it one to mothball for 40 years as a curio?

Probably of more value than a virtually unused Minidisc recorder I recently tried (and failed) to sell, though I can't remember the last time I saw pre recorded tapes for sale anywhere or even blank ones.

FWIW I've got a Teac and a Sony cassette deck in the loft myself, but haven't used them for years.

I still make the occasional mix tape, or listen to old recordings of radio shows (mine, John Peel, h2g2, etc.)

I did see new TDK 90 minute tapes for sale in Waitrose the other week... I did think at the time, 'cor, havn't seen tapes for sale for ages'.

Last one sold on eBay for £35 so i'd definitely keep it.
Unfortunately the market for proper HiFi is very weak it would seem.

I managed to pick up an Aiwa ADWX999 for less than a tenner on the bay last year - that was a 400 quid deck when it was new... I don't use it much, but enough to keep it in the rack.

I've got one parked in the garage (technics) thats on the "should I dump it" list, yet still it tugs at the heartstrings.

Although I just gave my old man an old panasonic car tape deck that also seemed too good to throw although I very nearly did, he was chuffed to bits.

I've still got two technics tape decks in my hifi tower, although I rarely use them.

My beemers got a radio /tape player head unit (with cd's in the load area), and I've only just removed the original radio/tape unit from my daughters fabia (as the little madam wanted something to plug her ipod thingy into)

You can still buy blank tapes from most supermarkets.

Tapes just sound so poor compared to cd's !
