Hi All,

I'm looking to buy a 996 C2 Manual Coupe and would welcome any advice from you guys.

The car I'm looking at is at a local garage as follows:

2000 - W plate - 20,000 miles - 996 C2 Manual - Silver

I test drove the car today and was pretty impressed with it. Asking price is £38,995 - which seems fair to me although I would hope to get it down a bit.

Spec-wise it is pretty standard. Grey Leather Climate Control 17" Turbo Alloys

Service History - it has an AFN stamp at 12,000 and then an independant at 20,000.

The only issue was a slight crack in the rear bumper just by the number plate where someone has obviously mis-judged their reversing. Shouldn't be too expensive to repair though.

I'm going to get Northway to give me an indepedant inspection on it before taking the plunge.

The guy didn't seem to think it had PSM. Although I thought this was standard. Can anyone confirm?

Cheers Guys...

Jon

Be very careful, that slight crack that you can overlook right now, will come back and ask you to fix it later!

It may not matter at the moment, but it will be a new rear PU, painting and re-fitting. I would allow about £750.00 plus the dreaded VAT to get it done!

Great idea to get Ray to look at the car though, well wise!

Like you, I hope to be driving a 996 very soon.
Though not an expert, I think PSM only came as standard on C4's and was only available as an option on C2's from 99 onwards. I also think it should have an oval button on the dash marked 'PSM'.

I'm sure some one who knows more than me will be along shortly to put you (and me!) straight.

Good luck!

TKD is quite right - PSM is an option on C2's, and there is a button the dash to disable it.

It sounds like a good car at a good price.

If Ray Northway gives it the thumbs up I'd go for it !

Welcome to the fold

Hi, Yep sounds a fair price to me, albeit not loaded with extras. With this in mind, may well be worth shopping around a bit, not purely thinking about low mileage, overall condition should be your main lead. Incidently the rear bumper will need replacing if cracked, approx £300, with paing and fit etc another £400 by Porsche dealer. A bargain for a small crack eh?
Good luck
Todd

Hey, that sounds exactly like my car.!

silver c2, 20000 miles w reg.

Mine doesnt have PSM either, but you dont need it, if you are sensible.

I was thinking of selling mine. I want a gt3.
Ive got 18" alloys and 3 Porsche dealer stamps,
And the 6cd sound system. Aswell as a tracker monitor.
Its also been lowered by Porsche 30mm with techart springs.
I was hoping for £42k??

Am I asking too much...
Sorry to hijack the thread.

...think it is a bit too much, especially as you've serverly restricted your market by the 30mm lowering. Loads of non-enthusiasts will be put off, especially as it's non-OEM.

Ive still got the original springs..its a 300 £ job to reverse it. So not too worried.
Have to say, the car is far more enjoyable than on standard settings, and not too harsh over the bumps.
