Not sure if I want to admit this hehe, but I watched 'Bridge to Terabithia' the other day on TV in a 'what the hell' sort of moment. It looked like a stupid rip off another fantasy film like Narnia/Harry Potter/Lord of the Rings... and found it surprisingly good, yet deeply saddening. I've never found a film that moving before but it was meant to be a kids film? Maybe because it took me by surprise. What's going on with me? mad If you haven't watched it, watch the whole thing without knowing beforehand what happens. I thought it was superb.

What films have you found (unexpectedly) moving/sad/depressing/thought provoking?

One that makes me think is 'Good Will Hunting'.

Grave of the fireflies. Not sure I've seen any other films that I felt were as moving smile

+1 on Good Will Hunting

Off the top of my head.

Being a bloke Field of Dreams (can't help myself) chokes me up, in a manly way.

Deer Hunter.

District 9, certainly gets one thinking about how humanity would deal with such a situation, and how we'd probably balls it up.

sad and moving Pay it Forward.

Has the boy from sixth sense, who comes up with the idea that you should do 3 good things for other people who should then do three good things etc.

Not going to say what happens in the end, but everyone I know who has seen it has been in tears.

The boy in the striped pyjamas is the saddest thing I've seen for a long time, really awful at the end but a good film.

I'll see your Boy in Striped Pyjamas (agree - very emotive) and raise you a Pianist.

Not a film, but Band of Brothers for manly lump in the throat stuff. It's the old boys talking at the end of the episodes that gets me.

Hidden - French mystery thought provoking
The Bothersome Man - Finnish, again thought provoking rather than sad.
Rabbit Proof Fence - Aussie, sad moving and thought provoking.
