Stewart gets knighthood, Quo only get OBEs
Discussion
Still plenty of class discrimination going on in the Honours system. Both Patrick Stewart and the main memebers of Status Quo have brought much pleasure to their respective audiences over their long careers, but when it comes to the honours there is a clear distinction between them, and this from a supposedly egalitarian government.

From memory Patrick Stewart was brought up far less than wealthy in Sheffield.
I've nothing against him at all, I watched most of STNG, and had another go of his Christmas Carol a couple of days ago, it's just that it's evident that someone in authority thinks that actors are more worthy than rock musicianssinglecoil said:

Thread running on the news section already.
I can see that the anouncements are news, but class distinction has been going on a long time. Oh well, never mind. The nature of PH leads to these types of duplicated topics. It does make it difficult deciding which ones to track. You end up hopping between the two (or three, or four).
Sometimes the mods will move the thread to the more appropraite forum where it will end being locked.

He has done lots for Hudds Uni as chancellor, Using his status to increase the profile of the uni and a very nice chap by all accounts
I've absolutely nothing against the chap, I'm sure he is well worth a knighthood, my complaint is more on behalf of the Quo fans (I'm not one personally, though it is obvious that Status Quo are very good at what they do, and have done it for a very long time,) and all they get is OBEssinglecoil said:
Not at all, in my first post perhaps I should have made it clearer that it has nothing to do with Patrick Stewart's background, and everything to do with the fact that he is an actor and not a rock musician.
The whole honours system is generally politically rigged, and we all know where Patrick Stewart lies in that respect, so please don't take my point below as point scoring for the sake of it, but...Who has done more for promoting the UK? A band who after 40 odd years still only do what, 3 chords? Or an actor with worldwide regard as both a highly skilled Film, TV and classical theatre actor?
I don't think there's any merit in saying one should have priority over the other.
My Grandmother has an MBE, after spending a large proportion of her life running RAFA for little reward and helping to look after ex-service personnel. Jenson Button has one after just about winning an F1 World Championship after lucking into a car capable of doing so (whilst he was paid millions for it). He also sang 'We Are The Champions' in a way that made a whole nation embarrassed on live TV.
I suppose the point is that there's no point in trying to compare the achievements and work out the merits because that's not how the system works.

Probably becuase "The Quo" are crap as they only know 1 tune, and Stewart can do more than one character.
You aren't actually serious by saying that Quo are musicians are you? They knock out a tune that every man and his dog can sing along to, and thats about it.
It's not what I consider to be music that should be the issue, it's what a great many other people consider to be nmusic that counts. In any case, at least they are able to get up on stage with a bassist and drummer and knock out a 2 hour concert which is a lot more than many other of today's 'acts' could do.You aren't actually serious by saying that Quo are musicians are you? BTW, although as I've already said, I like Stewart's work, I never noticed a great deal of variation in his stuff.

You have never seen them then. You aren't actually serious by saying that Quo are musicians are you? They knock out a tune that every man and his dog can sing along to, and thats about it.
You have never listened to them.
You are obviously oblivious to the impact they have had on other musicians over the last decades.
Charity work they are heavily involved in....
And they were as surprised as anyone to receive this.
I like PS as well
