13 mins long but worth listening to.
One thing though, I thought the BBC didn't have ads, so why does Mark Thompson mention the Uno so much ?

Today programme guest editor PD James was a governor of the BBC from 1988 to 1993. For her programme she interviewed the corporation's director general Mark Thompson, pressing him on why an "unwieldy" and "bureaucratic" corporation had lost its way since she was a child, and to explain the pay of senior executives.
Mr Thompson defended the BBC schedules and the pay of senior executives, but accepted that public service bureaucracies were a "many headed hydra" in which costs were sometimes hard to keep down.
