Lidl - a cultural expedition

A friend suggested a 'cultural expedition' to Lidl today. (Leatherhead - no less.) Hey, why not, I thought. I've never been, and we're sure to get the car dinked, but what the hell, we're going in yours and I'm game if you are.
A revelation. Fresh produce costs the same as everywhere else, and certain things like toilet paper and shampoo are more expensive than Waitrose, however I've stocked the booze / freezer / store cupboard with the following:
500ml bottle Staropramen - £1.29
70cl bottle sour cherry liqueur (15% ABV) - £4.99 (very nice too)
70cl bottle champagne - £9.99 (again, good)
Whole frozen lobster - £4
500g bag frozen prawns (big fat ones too) - £2.50
750ml bottle extra virgin olive oil - £2.39
285g jar of wild mushrooms in oil - £1.19
100g pack of 'super' noodles - 19p
Fill yer boots.

Nothing wrong with Lidl or Aldi; people who say otherwise are just being snobby. Almost everything they sell in there is of very high quality, and you can get some lovely meats and cheeses. Plus, they're never very busy, so the whole tedium of shopping is somewhat reduced.
Couldn't do the whole weekly shop there, but they are very good for certain things. Oh, and Aldi have made me around £250 in profit, so I have a soft spot for them! I buy a certain item in Aldi and then sell it for nearly twice as much on eBay. Aldi fund my drinking for most of the Uni term.

Not true, personally I believe they want to be SEEN as snobby out of some sort of insecurity. They'll say Lidl Aldi etc is for peasants as they know it's going to get a certain 'you are a snob' reaction.

On a semi regular basis they have Charmin bog roll, 24 for £6.99 which is cheaper than anywhere else. I buy dog mixer, bin bags and occasionally car air fresheners from there. Also the special deals they have in can be good, I signed up for the regular email telling me all about them.
Some of the stuff is great, some of it is rubbish. Some of it is very cheap compared to supermarkets and some of it is expensive. As long as you are able to sort the stuff worth buying from the rubbish Lidl/Aldi is well worth the occasional visit.
Occasional because you have to put up with some right skanks in there (the sort who buy multipacks of no name tinned curries and the like...), pay for bags and queue for ages because they only ever seem to have one till open no matter how long the queue.

The champagne really is good. Krug it isn't, but it's far nicer than anything else I've tried for less than £20 a bottle. Point taken about the Chablis. There was also some rather dodgy-looking vodka for £9.99 which I'll happily avoid when Russian Standard is on offer at Chavsda for £10.
