French press tips
Discussion
We've had a succession of filter coffee makers (3 in 3 years) and each have been disappointing in one area or another.
So, I bought a 4 cup cafetiere thing and am trying to get my coffee-making technique just right.
Any tips?
At the moment I'm doing this:
1. Boil kettle and let the water cool for 30 seconds
2. Put 4 spoons of finely ground coffee in the press
3. Add water (4 cups) and stir for 30 seconds
4. Let it brew (3 minutes seems to be the best result so far)
5. Slowly push down the plunger
6. Let it rest for 30 seconds
7. Pour and drink
I've tried quite a few variations but the results don't always seem consistent. I once let it bre for 6 minutes and it was lovely but following the exact same procedure next morning the coffee was bitter

IMHO far better coffee than you'd get from a caffetiere (however you might spell it :P )
