PS3... slim vs. fat

.... or whatever a non 'slim' is called! 
errr a friend of a friend's divorced half sister's cat has offered me a slim PS3 new and boxed for £200, is this a good deal? They seem to be around £225ish from what I've seen.
Beyond the size are there any differences to the fat one?
I understand that PS2 support was phased out, does that mean it will not play PS2 games or it may support some?
Does the HD size really make much difference? I presume the one I'm being offered is the 120Gb...

New and boxed thats a good price.
I got a 120gb when they were launched. Cost me £230.
I suppose if you want a humongous amount of media on your ps3 then the 250gb would be worthwhile, but it is important to remember that the hard drive is very easily upgradeable so you could save the extra dosh for a bigger HDD if you one day require it.

Try and find a original 60Gb fat version. Extra USB ports, memory card slots and apparently (as far as i have seen) the only ones that play all of the PS1 and PS2 games. The superior model, by far.

Having had a look on eBay, there seem to be an awful lot of faulty 60Gb consoles...? Is that something to be worried by?
Thinking again, PS2 support isn't really a problem to me. I have a slim PS2 I can plug in if I do want to use it; although I can't see that being likely!
Is there anything else lacking on the slim version that's likely to be useful?

As far as im aware anyway.
Im using all 4 of my ports and the memory card slots get used frequently (the SD one anyway), ive had mine since release and as long as you keep it clean and dont let it get to hot then it will be fine (touch wood)

I've had a 40Gb PS3 for over two years and have not missed backwards compatibility or extra usb slots, I've never used the two I've got!!I thought the slim one had that as well?

Buy it, if you think you need extra usb slots sell it and seek out an old warrantyless console from fraud-bay!
I've never used the card slots either, they get used for photos or transferring data between pc and PS3, I've never done that.

If I need to copy a film from an SD card then I use a USB adaptor. This is very rare though as I run TVersity on my PC to serve music, photos and movies to the PS3.
If you don't know what it is for, do you reckon you will miss it if you buy a console without one?.
I have an 80GB model, no SD slot and only two USB ports. I can't remember the last time I used even one of the USB ports so having another two I have no use for is a bit silly really. I can't even think of why anyone would want 4 USB ports. The controllers are wireless and I stream media directly from my PC so no need for USB memory sticks...or even a whacking big hard drive. I can't even fill my 80GB one.
As for your dilemma. The console on offer is only 10% less than a new one from the shops. If this new console comes with the receipt allowing for easy return if you have a problem then £20 saved is £20 in your pocket, but if it doesn't and you are not sure of its origin (bought from bloke in a pub or fell off the back of a lorry etc) then pay the extra, buy new from a shop and have full warranty and support from Sony

I use my camera alot, computer is upstairs console downstairs. Use the PS3 to store photos then transfer to computer as and when. Also if im around somebodys place and they have picture/music/game save etc i want, i can easily transfer it.I thought the slim one had that as well?

As i said earlier, 3 USB slots in permenant use, 4th slot gets used for Buzz whenever people pop round. As for backwardyness, i play plenty of my older games on a regular basis, mainly PS1 but some PS2 (GTA)
I couldnt be without the Memory card or USB slots and backwardyness, each to their own though
