Hi Peeps,

Whilst out on a new years day drive today the tyre pressure warning light lit up - when I stopped at the nearest station my nsr tyre had deflated to 1.7bar, but there's no sign of a slow puncture due to any cuts or nails. I've heard this might be a effect of the cold on RF's?

More worryingly was the wear on the rears however - the inner halfs were worn far greater than the outer half. Both tyres are down to the indicators after 13k miles - I drive it pretty sensibly with the odd burst on a slip road, but it seems excessive to me. Is 13k normal for a set of rears?

And how much can I expect to pay for a new set of rear boots?!

Cheers

I would have thought the cold weather would lead to all the tyres being the same amount down on pressure rather than just one. Have you hit any potholes with that tyre which may have caused a loss of air, this happened with my other half's Cooper S once?

I have never come across the tyre pressure warning coming on due to the cold but as above, I did have it happen once in my Mini after hitting a pothole.

13k seems quite low to me. My first set of RFT's I binned at around 10k miles due to a puncture but they had plenty of tread left (I'd have estimated about 5k). Due to the puncture I replaced all 4 with Pirelli PZero Rosso and the rears have just been replaced after 18k miles (and 2.5 years). Most of my miles are done around town and I don't spare the rubber.

Sounds like you might have a problem with the uneven wear, are these the standard Goodyear RFT's you've got fitted?

When did you last check the pressures? A friend of mine has a 118d which wore the tyres badly on the inside & he'd never checked the pressures, but relied on the low pressure indicator!!

I always checked mine regularly and when I sold my 130i with 19k on the clock it had around 3mm left on the rears. Mine was fitted with Goodyear rft's..
