Taking off main bonnet

Managed to drop my water cap down the hole next to the water tank while filling her up this morning. So, i now have a rubberized cap sitting somewhere in the engine bay.

It should be a simple task to take the main bonnet off and retrieve it but after taking the bolts out I cannot seem to locate the clips at the top of the bonnet. Anyone got any exact instructions on exactly where the clips are, i have jammed my finger in the hole at the top and can feel nothing! Thanks

you should be able to see the clips with a torch. You need to push an outer sleeve along a shaft. This lets the pin go. Simple when you can see it. Depending on how big your fingers are will determine if you do it with your fingers or not. There is a special tool but my fingers work so never needed to aquire one. Always have two people to lift it off.

There a four nuts, 2 on each side at front end, the rear clips are up near the windscreen, they are spring loaded "buttons". you just push them in and gently raise the bonnet. get someone to help you remove and replace the bonnet, its not heavy, but is very easy to scratch the wings.

Its always a good idea to run some masking tape along the the inside edges of the wings so that if the bonnet catches, it want scratch (even with 2 people).

I use a small flat-head scredriver to push the sleeve along the shaft. It hells to lift the bonnet slightly with your fingers so you can see what you are pushing!

The sleeve can be really stiff, I have used a very small spanner to push the sleeve thing back, and then give it a good squirt of WD40

Thanks guys, managed to eventually pop it open using a bit of brute force and the tail end of a thin spanner.

I have now a flipping bonnet and the result is stunning. Within 3 minutes I have acces to everything.
Some work but hugh succes
