Interesting perspective from someone who has been in the same shoes as Blair:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8437422.stm

Pretty damning and nicely timed for the resumption of the Chilcot enquiry. Does Blair still think he can emerge with anything resembling a reputation intact?

I think there has to be certain things we can't know as Sir John says so there is a certain level of trust we have to endure. That trust has clearly been taken for granted over and over again.

I don't think Blair really cares, he has got so much power and influence he is above/beyond any sort of judgement.

My respect for Major has gone up and up over the years. And, indeed, Lawson, who was one of the very first to try to dispel the MMGW bks.

I doubt we'll feel the same about Bliar or Crash in a decade.

'Reluctantly supported the war'?

The existence of WMDs was in doubt at the time of the vote in the Commons and that was one of the reasons why the Lib Dems wanted to give the UN more time before going to war.

Why did the Tories not follow suit? Rather now we hear them expressing their doubts retrospectively.

Don't get me wrong, I hope Cast Iron Dave gets into power come the next parliament (anything to get rid of McBroon) but pretending they would have voted against the Iraq war had they known the full facts is highly debatable.

You are probably right. Mind you, if his sense of righteous self belief ever falters he will probably implode.

I think History will give him a better assesment than the media at the time, and a much better place in time than Bliar.

When he was PM he was the right man atthe wrong time IMHO

If he and Lawson were to stand in a GE I would vote for them.

He has his new sky daddy to ease the guilt, if there is any.

The man is tarred with a very different brush. I'd say some pathological personality traits for starters. Namely narcissistic and antisocial.

I think his wife is of a similar order.

I must say that I bought into the spitting image portrayal of John Major hook line and sinker but I have since spoken to several people that met him personally - they have all said that he was extremely charismatic and instantly commanded the attention of a room when he walked in (especially women!).

And the millions he and his money-grabbing wife always craved, he'd better hope his God will forgive him because no-one else will.

Oh, the 'cutting edge' comedians and celeberati (i.e. Ben Elton) shaping the public consciousness for us all to match their own left wing POV.

It's a shame that the luvvies all feel their "reponsibility" to preach when all they are are a bunch of well paid minstrels and court jesters.

Worthwhile career people, I am sure. And where did they dine out on their greatest victory in their hard fought battle against the Devil?
Not the Normandy beaches, but Anthiny Charles Linton Blair's Cool Britannia party.

Ahh bless.

To be honest I wasn't trying to make a party political point there, the media has two sides too.

When he became PM I was chatting to someone from his constituency and I made some comment about him being dull and was told that actually nobody within the constituency expected him to survive long as PM as he was already known to be a bit of a womaniser and it would likely bring him down.

John Major has been heavily involved in the Carlisle group since his brief period of leadership, I am sure he is just as rich as Blair.

You should google the Carlisle Group if you are not aware of who they are and how they make money.
