I got my partner an ipod for her mini cooper (53) and also a fm radio thing to play it through, but after using it the quality is terrible, whats the options for hard wiring one into the back of the head unit?? its a standard mini stereo. i looked at the halfords ones but there £150 upwards, is there a lead that can be connected into the head unit? thanks for any advise.

Have a look through here:

Should be something that will get the iPod working, or give them a ring to check what you need.

I have a Dension Ice Link Plus fitted to my R53. It's fitted to the stereo's wiring loom and gives you a lead which can be routed into the glovebox. You can then set up playlists in iTunes so that you can select albums from the 1-5 buttons on the front of the stereo. You control the iPod entirely from the head unit, and it charges it too, all from a single dock lead.

You can also get a cradle to mount the iPod on the dash, but obviously this has security implications. As said above, get in touch with Mike Wildman at newministuff.com - he'll be able to advise you on what you need. I installed mine over 3 years ago, and I'd highly recommend one.

Having just had a look at the newministuff site, it looks like the Dension Ice Link Plus has been superseded by the Dension Gateway 100. Again, if you go for one of these, you need to specify whether you have a WAVE, BOOST or Harmon Kardon set up.

I had mini fit the iPod cable to my Harmon system. No cradles, unsightly wires or anything. Only cost about £90.

Ipod sits in the glove compartment and you set up playlists starting MINI1, MINI2 etc on the Ipod and away you go.

Having had cradles and FM transmitters etc I can deffo say that getting the wire fitted is well worth the expense.
