When do you cross the line from being clean and tidy to having OCD? I like to think I'm just a tidy, organised and clean person, although some might suggest otherwise.

If I use something, I put it away - I won't leave it lying around. If an electrical item isn't in use, I switch it off at the wall. I don't like wires lying around - I like them organised and tidy if possible. If I've used dishes I'll wash up and clean the counters. I like my drawers to be organised so that I can find things. I like my towels to be rolled neatly not just thrown on the shelf. At the end of the night I like to straighten things up before I go to bed.

I don't think this makes me an OCD freak, I just don't like leaving things at my arse. Or am I failing to see some major freakery about myself? Surely this is average behaviour? Or does the rest of the nation leave the dishes to rot and the dust to settle?

Nope you're definitely either a weirdo or a woman.

You've not got an OCD, you're just anally retentive.

As this, frankly, indecipherable statement demonstrates:

If the boy starts digging big holes in the garden, be very afraid. wink
Don't.

Think of all the dirt I'd have to clean up.

You make that sound like the two are mutually exclusive.

Knew an otherwise normal girl who would empty all her kitchen cupboards and dust shelves and then polish cans and wipe down packets.

Every day.

She would also spring up several times during an evening and hoover under the feet of guests at the dining table or sitting on the sofa.

You're fine.

I reckon if you have to ask a bunch of people online if you have a problem, then your biggest problem is not the potential ocd issue... wink

I had a partner like this. I used to shag her in every place in the house so that I could go get down the pub with the lads while she 'cleared up' biggrin

OCD doesn't necesarily mean you clean alot.

I'm certain I have OCD but mine manifest in the fact that I can't have a job half done. I'm happy if the place is spotless or happy if it's an absolute tip....... but if it's been half-cleaned then it will drive me mental.

Smae with everything in my life, it everything has to be all or nothing, there is no inbetween.

OCD is rooted in a fear, if my basic understanding of it is correct. So unless you actually fear dirt, or the cleaning makes you stave off a fear then I don't think you have OCD.

I see your side of it though, we live in this house so why shouldn't it be neat and livable? It's the people that are too lazy to clean and filthy that we should be wary of smile

Everyone i know says i have ocd but i really dont know. For example everything in my bathroom is in sections then all lables must be facing forwards with the opening/nozzle facing in the same direction and everything completly inline. Another example might be while driving all my heaters must be pointing in the same direction and volume on a equal number, I also have the bit mentioned earlier on once i start a job i must finish it.

Another reason people have said i might have it is because (this may sound very odd) i have a sorta second mind fighting with my self, For example if i leave something on the side but where it may get knocked i will battle with myself in my head as to if i move it or not and always end up moving it.

Broadmoor here i come.

I'm maybe not quite as "organised" as the OP, but i do like to keep things tidy, and generally clean up promptly after myself. I do however like to keep all my CDs and DVDs in alphabetical order.

I've been told though that this is more a sign of me being a Virgo, if you believe any of that sort of tripe, than being OCD.

My OH on the other hand can not get to sleep unless she has flipped her pillows over in a certain way before putting her head on them!

My Boss has OCD. For example, when we lock up at work he will lock the front doors, and rattle the door handles about 8-10 times, reciting "locked, locked, locked, locked" over and over again as he does it.

He will then examine the gap between the doors to make sure the locking bolt is across. Then he waves his hand up across the electric sensor to make sure that it won't open the door. Finally, he'll ask someone else to double check the door is locked before we leave, asking them as we leave the building if the door was definitely locked. That is OCD...
