Ok I have a Samsung 42" Plasma 4 days old.

I have noticed a handful of time that the screen pixalates (sp)

What causes it?

PS I have no idea about tv's AT ALL!

Probably signal degradation. What have you been watching when you noticed this... Freeview?

Depends what you are watching and how bad is it?

If its from the TV's freeview tuner then it could be due to bad signal/poor aerial. If its weirdness on very bright images then this is due to the movie mode being turned on.

What do you have plugged into it, where is the signal coming from?

If its digital tv (sky, terrestrial etc) then theres so many layers of processing before it gets to you it could easily be one of those.

If its DVD/Bluray then could be processing on the TV, which you shouldnt need.

If you're viewing Sky or Freeview and it's snowing heavily, it could be the weather.

You kinda need to define what you mean by pixilating

Do you mean that the picture actually breaks up into a blocky storm

Or is it that now you have a Plasma you can now see that the picture is infact made from little squares (something you may have not noticed on your old CRT)

If you're watching using Sky+ / SkyHD, when it does it wind back live TV and see if it does it at the same point again. If it does, then its on the box and a momentary degradation of signal. It happens to ours occasionally, I notice it more on the bigger (42") TV we have now compared to the old 28" CRT it replaced, simply because a bigger screen means you'll see more imperfections.

Its unlikely to be your TV, maybe whilst installing your TV the dish leads got moved? Its worth checking that the F-connectors are still attached properly and screwed into the sky box properly.

The bit rates on some SD freeview channels are shockingly bad. The BBC are normally a bit better. Are you getting the same kind of noise on other sets?

Its probably a bad signal not being helped by a sub-par scalar engine on the Samsung. Sorry to be blunt.

LOL, i admit thay arnt the best TV sets in the world in the same way that a Ford Focus isnt as good as a Bentley but they certainly dont make sky pixilate.

Sorry re-red the OP.

I assumed he was talking about the pixelation people complain about when going from an old tube set to something more modern.

Anything intermittent, providing its across a similar scene is more likely to be upstream of the set.

Mea culpa.
