Need help sourcing steel in Aberdeen area

Hi guys.

Need to source some steel strips\bars for making a base for mounting Cobra bucket seats, the base will then be welded in. I probably need 4-5mm thick, perhaps 40-50mm wide and about 2.5 metres of it which I can cut up.

Anyone know where I can source this in Aberdeen area? And does that thickness\dimensions sound correct?

Hi, sizes look about right. You're looking for flat bar. I got mine in Dundee, but a search in yellow pages / net should bring up plenty stockists.

Steel , as I assume you will be welding it, and fixing to mild steel anyway.

Mild steel ok for welding? I don't know anything about materials and welding. I'll be letting the pro's do the welding, but want to make up the frames in advance.

Yes, mild steel is what you want, you would be better just nipping ito somewhere local and getting what you want, cut to length. Even a blacksmiths shop might have off cuts of use.

I have some stuff about that size in the workshop

Can even let you have a play with the bandsaw to make things easy to cut

Oh and Aalco only do non ferrious metal like stainless steel and alloy

Nope still on standard tyres, but I tend to carry silly amounts of just in case things in the car. Not had any issues yet and that includes driving to my aunties hill croft twice. Beyond a foot of snow compacting becomes an issue as the car compacts it underneath and just doesnt have the clearance, but you can feel when that's happening. I oddly enjoy driving in this.

Yeah spoke to them and they have put it aside. Just need to get over there now one lunchtime, which will probably take 3 hours from Westhill in the snow...... ahhhhh

Always found them helpful

if you need a hand tacking anything together before full welding give me a shout

Not willing to full weld someone elses seat or harness mounts as i'm a good welder but not that good
