Any meteorologists on here?

On Saturday I posted pictures of some weird type of snow that fell, that I'd not seen before.
Today, with 100% clear blue sky and blazing sunshine, the temperature still hasn't risen above -2C and there's snow falling!!! It's not much and the flakes are the smallest I've ever seen but where are they coming from?

The size and shape of a snow flake depends on the conditions at the time of falling. A small snowflake suggests a small number of snow crystals have combined together. Maybe because it is falling from a high altitude!?
