What number for Schumacher

Dont know if this has come up on here yet but apologies if it has.

Anyway, as Mercedes nee Brawn are the Driver and Constructor winning team, they will have the rights to the number 1 car, but as JB has taken that over to McLaren, what will Schumy take. I would think that Rosberg will take the number 2, but I cant see Schumy taking the number 0 ala Damon a few years ago.

Number 27 or 46 anyone??

It'll be 3 or 4, McLaren get 1 and 2 as Button is the reigning champion. Appropriate in a way, seeing as Brawn evolved from Tyrrell

When Brawn evolved from Honda, wasn't there an argument over whether they would be allwoed the Honda "placing" in the championship and therefore have their numbers? As such JB was 22 this year, rather than slightly higher that a Honda car would have had (my rubbish memory seems to recall it was all about the way in which Brawn took over/bought (or didn't) the Honda team).

Is there any similar discussion on the MB team and how they bought (or didn't) Brawn?

Can't remember the precise details but I suspect there was some form of FIA logic at work that no mere mortal man can hope to understand. OR perhaps honda/brawn were the last team to confirm an entry.

More importantly, who's gonna be lucky 22 this year? would be spooky if mercedes got pushed down the order for being a new team and they MS ended up with 22...

Quite - driver 22 having won the past 2 seasons

McLaren get numbers 1 and 2 due to Jenson being WDC. Lewis will be No 2

Mercedes will get numbers 3 and 4 due to being Constructor's champions.

Rosberg will get number 3 and Schumacher number 4 due to Rosberg finishing higher in the WDC last year* (Schumacher obviously not taking part in 2009)

US F1 will get car number 22, winner of the WDC for the past 2 seasons. Driver unconfirmed.

* Unless Schumacher stamps his feet and demands number 3. Can't see it though

Quite. When I try to identify which driver is which at a glance, I look at the helmets.

Numbers, as I remember, used to be far more prominent/readable in the past.

The rot set in after the turn of the century. Racing numbers used to be iconic but now they are meaningless. I always think that it is a very telling point that NASCAR, despite being even more commercialised than F1, still insists on large readable numbers.

My mate at Mercedes says Michael will be number 3 and all the guys from Jensons side will be working on his car, which unofficially makes him number 1 in the team.

I recall Schumi making some rather scathing remarks about "being a Zero", so I think it unlikely that he'd have it.

Bigger question is who will have No. 1 in 2011?

Yes and I don't get you. You said you thought Rosberg will take number 2 which he can't because numbers 1 & 2 will be with Jenson and McLaren. So go on, expand on what you are on about...

The number zero was only used as the reigning WDC of the time had sodded off to America to find a car he could fit in. Hence, number 0 and 2 was used for the WCC team.
