I have been talking into growing a beard for charity. It's for a charity i do a lot of events for, The Donna Louise Trust that are a comprehensive children’s hospice service within Staffordshire and South Cheshire for the core purpose of providing respite and end of life care for children with life threatening conditions.

It's been since New Years eve and i have until March 1st until i can shave - and it's already really p*ssing me off!!!

Any tips of getting through the itchy stage?? And how shall i style it? I'm thinking spartan style!!!!!

oh, and if you want to donate whistlehehe

I found if you wash it regularly with soap and water as oppose to say, shower gel, it helps with itching. I styled mine in a Ricky Gervais style goatee. Then the other half came home and announced that it made her feel physically sick and refused to look at me. I wanted my tea so I shaved it off.

I'm in the process of growing one meyself at the moment (since Christmas Eve) the itching does ease, I used a mild shampoo (baby shampoo I think) and regularly washed and conditioned the beard and the itching eased. I'm at the stage now where the 'tash part is starting to tickle the base of my nose.

The girlfriend likes it and reckons it suits me and to be honest I quite like it too, can't see it being a life long thing but I think every man should try it at some stage, its like a rite of passage.

I've been talked into it by working outside the past few weeks!

Not shaved since just before Christmas, apart from to tidy up the edges and neck, and it is all fine and not itchy now. It does feel odd at times as all the hair springs back after you rub it.

If you are allowed to trim it then do, about a number 3 or 4 all over will stop you looking like a wild-man and helps a lot with the itching.

As others have said though, it will pass eventually!

No trimming.

I have a charity walk planned on 27th Feb themed Alan from The Hangover, so full growth is a must!!!

The itching goes quite fast ive found, I shower every morning, so shampoo it at the same time as my head, seems to keep it nice.

Are you allowed to neaten the top of your cheeks and round your neck? Or has it got to be full wild man style?

Just moisturise your face and dont worry about rubbing a bit into the stubble. Should sort it.

Use Head and Shoulders when you wash your face morning and night, it'll look pristine and itch free.

I grew a three-weeker over Christmas - quite liked it but wife didn't so shaved it off this morning. It itched like hell. I took it down bit by bit, like the Xmas decorations, left the 'tash on to see how it looked ('disgusting', apparently). Then I couldn't decide whether to do a 'Hitler' or a 'David Niven'. Opted for a Niven.

But it's all gone now. frown
