Snow tyre/wheel combo on an X5
Discussion
Hello,
I'm looking to buy a set of winter tyres with alloys to swap with the current 20" Y spoke wheel and low profile sport run flats the car has as standard.
Can anyone give me any recommendation on wheel and tyre combo's used. Car is an E70 X5 3.0d dynamic pack.
I'm thinking the standard 18" alloys with a good winter tyre would be a good solution. Is there anywhere outside the BMW network to buy the above I should be considering?
Thanks in advance.

Ebay.de would be one suggestion? E.g. http://shop.ebay.de/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m...
I'm considering doing the same at the moment as well, the X5 really is s
te in the snow. Here are my thoughts:
1. Buy an OEM set of wheels (Costwold Gloucester quoted me £1K today for 4 x 209 or 210 style 18s). Good price but with tyres you're at £1500+
2. Try e-bay (Germany) as per previous post, there are 2 sets of 18s with RF winter tyres on at the mo, but the weak pound, shipping costs and a dislike of ebay puts me off
3. Buy a set of non-OEM rims eg. Oz. I've never done this before but tbh you're still looking at £500 upwards for a new set.
4. Just buy a set of non-RF winter tyres, the likes of www.camskill.co.uk list loads, and keep changing them over.

We used to live in Switzerland where everyone switches to winter tyres around October time. Easiest way by far is to have 2 sets of rims.
By the time you've been through the hassle and expense of changing tyres over on a single set of rims (which I guess you'll need to have done for you) and then storing the tyres it becomes a ballache - costly over time and time consuming.
Much better to simply store winter tyres on non-OEM rims if necessary (if they are decent quality this shouldn't be an issue - particularly for winter use) and switch the wheels over in 20 minutes on your own drive!!
