Hi above part needs to be supplied and fitted got 2 quotes from local benz dealers

1 = £290
2 = £387

first one quoting 0.5 hours labour

second 1.5 hours labour

local indie price pretty much same as quote number 1

amazed 2 local dealers have such a difference in estimated labour time for same job.

I assume that the 4.3 V8 is similar to the 5.4 in my E55, in which case it's definatley a half hour job, trying to charge you 1.5hours is taking the p**s.

I have a receipt for this job from the previous owner of mine, labour charge was £25. Doesn't say the time spent, but unless this was the cheapest garage known to man, it's a half hour.

It's a 5-10 minute job at most and is pretty easy to do yourself. The 1.5hrs is nonsense.

i've been told you have to put car on merc diagnosis (star) to programme after fitting the sensor,is this correct ?

You do need to, but it doesn't need to be an MB diagnostic. A regular "workshop" multi-car connection to tell it to reset the ECU settings for the MAF is all you need. The ECU AFAIR stores the most recent MAF output, so if it's a new MAF, the settings don't match and you may get misfires.

whooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo hoooooooooooooooooooooooo just fitted a new air mass sensor,had forgotten just what a awesome car the c43 is,i had been driving around for quite a long time with the old air mass fitted and would think twice about overtaking etc due to lack of performance, it hasnt drove like this for ages,one very happy chappy here, cheers for your advice all here i wouldnt have tried this if i were not a member here without your guys help/advice,quite a few people said the ecu would need resetting this is 100% incorrect drove car straight after fitting the sensor and it flew !! its a v reg with roof/xenons 45k miles fmbsh and it now feels as good as new,superb car

must mention gemtech in romford i sent him a text to ask what he would charge to fit the air mass he replied "its a two minute job you can do it yourself with a screwdriver, if youre passing by pop in i wont charge you" had to read the text twice !! even my own indie wanted £40 merc orpington wanted £57 (half hour labour) get ready for this........ merc dartford wanted £186 (1.5 hours labour) have had nothing but horrendous service from dartford would advise no one to use them.
