Sorry if this has been covered before, but I've searched and couldn't find much that compares these cars. Maybe because it's a daft comparison.

I've only ever had Porsche and tend to collect the race variants, but fancied dipping a toe in Ferrari ownership. I've never driven any at all, but had a passenger lap round Spa in a 355 and wasn't bowled over. From what i've read on the 360CS it sounds great for what i'm after. Would the standard 430 be a better buy than a 360CS? Has anyone on here driven both on track and provide an objectiv comparison?

Thanks.

Track 360CS - Road 430

430 (unless a very late car) doesn't have the brakes to stand much track work and is very much setup as a stunning road car not a track car, other way round for CS. One of the cars I've had that I would have loved to keep, but things like the cost of a wing mirror finished me off in the end, they are very expensive track toys!

For tracking you will prefer the CS to a standard 430 it comes better equiped for the job.
The CS is great to drive on road or track but is track focused most have full harness belts and carbon race seats CCB brakes are standard ( as is no carpet) plus they use sticky rubber (hard to get at times).

Drive both and make your own mind up if you have any questions I can help with please just ask.

If you like 'race variants' then only one answer - the CS.

But good luck finding one- there's not many for sale at the moment.

If you can stretch to a Scud then another alternative.

Rick

PS great cars and IMO an appreciating asset ....

They both use whatever the hell you put on them. So if you put PZero Corsas on a 430 then it also has track tyres.

Thanks for all the views on this. Guess i'm not surprised by the advice, but thought I'd ask as you read things in the motoring press like "the new model has moved the game on so much so that the standard model is as quick as the previous lightweight special". Quotes like this are hopeless as a comparison and I feel checky trying to test drive both back to back at a dealer, though not sure why. What made me ask was reading press articles about the 430 gearchange being so much better, plus have the difference modes like switching it to race, thought it might be comparible as a driving experience.

I do prefer the hardcore feel and suspect a 430 coupe will feel a softer experience.

IMOM i've PM'd you.

F430 drives just like Boxster S but with more power and noise!

It is more of a comfort / GT car feeling than "raw" like the GT3.

To get the best out of the CS you MUST use the tyres recomended the car is crap wihtout them it has been set up to use them unlike the 430 (go back to looking for your sledge!)

Like a Boxter S/Comfort/GT !?!?!
Thats ridiculous, have you actually driven an F430 in anger with the mannetino set to 'race' ?
I suppose you also think that Amy Winehouse is like Hannah Montana !?

If you like hardcore cars, my guess is that you'll go for the CS, whether you track it or not. IMO, and despite its looks, the CS is road- rather than track-optimised. I never used my CS on the track but had a great deal of fun with it as a road car. It's firm riding but doesn't rattle your teeth and I did several long trips in it. Plenty of visual/aural drama and racecar cues, the only real price being the harnesses stop you from turning your body to see out of the back when reversing. Other than that, it's a perfectly useable road car with added drama.

The 430 on the other hand is leather and high living. It's fast, no doubt, but it's a very different experience. I guess most people would look at the soft leather seats and think 'lovely'; I look at them and think 'just how much do those bds weigh?'

One other thing to add some Porsche context- the CS is not as hardcore as RS variants.

Thanks for the further views and trying to draw parallels to the cars I've got experience with.

For 15 years I've only ever owned and driven Porsche RS, RSR, GT2, clubsport caged variants, etc and prefer to use them on track. For road driving more than happy with a BM. I just fancied trying something Italian for the track. Short of buying a non-road legal Gallardo GT3 race car or 430 Challenge race car do Ferrari or Lamborghini make a road legal track car?

I'm assuming the options are 360 CS, 430 Scud, or Superleggera. If so is the Scud really worth paying the extra £50k to £60k ish over a CS?

LOL I meant the "go-kart" type feeling that they both share. I have driven F430 on track day in Race mode but not in anger - and it is a brilliant car.

I don't know who Amy and Hannah are though...

Really simple answer. The CS is a raw stripped out car; if you are looking for a track car this is it. The 430 is pretty close in performance to the CS but has the benefits of being comfortable and not giving you a head ache; therefore if you are going to use it lots on the road then this is your car.

From what you have said about collecting track cars its a no brainer; buy the CS (unless you can go to a 430 scud!).
