I want to change my SE glass tailgate for the non-glass versions found on all later esprits and High wing SEs ( or non turbo models ).
Does anybody know of anyone with one for sale (any colour) or wants to swap?
Or are they quite rare?

Any help please!!! I REALY want one!!
Ill throw in a set of SE wheels with new tyres on as well.

Cheers Kev@carnoisseur

I've thought about this too and it isn't easy to get another tailgate. But there is another solution.

Go to a good shop and have them remove the glass. Then, glass up the ridge where the glass used to be and respray it, it should look super. The only thing you'll have to deal with then is the SE engine cover which could allow water into the engine compartment. Of course, if you only drive on nice days don't worry about it.

This is something I've contemplating doing on and off of quite sometime. I don't care for the glass too much either.

Funny you should say that, as straight after writing that message I thought about doing what you said!! I dont think a bit of water on the engine will hurt.
Ill end up doing that if I get no response.

Double check your engine cover to see it has catch trays. If they do then you are alright. You don't really want to have water getting in as I have had lots of problems on two ocassions with mine.
As for a tailgat, try douglas valley breakers.
Failing that, I might be able to get hold of a glass tailgate for about £80 ish for you to canibalise. You wouldn't want to ruin your original one would you?
E-mail me on dave@acsdesign.org

BTW, if you get an S4 or highwing rear deck (very rare) then you will need to buy a new engine cover as the old one doesn't fit.

you can buy the later tailgate from SJ, but is quite expensive, around 1k for the tailgate and £300 for the revised engine cover.

Yes Iam interested. Have you bought a new engine cover as well? Don't suppose any of those are in Norfolk Mustard? What colour is yours?
E-mail please with the details to dave@acsdesign.org

Cheers,

Dave
