Discussion
Hi,
Apologies in advance if this topic has been discussed before. I'm looking to buy a Mark 1 GT3 (I'm going for a test drive in one in the next few days)and was wondering who to approach for insurance.
So far, the only quote I've had was from Performance Marques who quoted a premium of around £1600 which included trackday cover with a £750 excess. A fellow PCGB member suggested I try AON.
I will proberbly cover around 5K pa and the car will be used mainly as a weekend toy though I would like to do a few trackdays. I'm 36 with a clean licence and haven't made a claim since the early 90's.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Neon - check on the trackday forum but this is my experience of ringing about 30 insurers:
Performance Marque will cover you for PCGB trackdays only. You need to be over 30.
AON will do trackdays but you need a second car and keep the other car garaged.
Carole Nash with AXA policy may allow trackdays if you inform them of the event beforehand and its non-competitive nature etc. They checked with underwriter for me, but the issue is still a bit woolly.
To be honest, it is often better to use Competition Car Insurance (Egger Lawson) for specific track event cover and get non-trackday main insurance cover. CCI cover about 10k of car for 100 GBP per event and are friendly and likeable people. I have used them a few times.

Correct Dom. The underwriter is Royal & Sun Alliance. They will also cover trackdays at 0.1% of the value of the car plus tax per day and the excess goes up to 10% of the value of the car.
The Cup Car is on limited mileage of 5,000, which I aim to reduce and costs about £400 per year.
One can also by 500 mile chunks if you think you are going to exceed the limit.
