Last time I went was a good 7 years ago, to Canada.

I've really wanted to go again for years - but I have no-one to go with.

My dads out there this week - I've just been looking at the place there at and with various offers on getting there, staying there, kit all conveniently coming into line etc - Its cheap. As in - cheap enough to make me really think I might go.

Its a cheaper, basic style Chalet/hotel, likely to be full of groups of students etc I would think. I am sure I will be able to mingle on an evening - I'm not shy.
But during the day, I might end up on my own.

I am really considering it. Am I mad?

Go for it. You'll be fine. Who knows, you might meet the future Mrs Snotrag. Enjoy.
Remember, we are here for a good time, not a long time. smile

ETA, you've got all the usual issues people have already sorted, ie price, how to & where to.
Acquire the mindset to relax and enjoy. The rest will come.

I'm really tempted.

I need some me time. 14 hours on a bus would be good me-time I think...!

Yes, I said the bus - but its very, very cheap. I've just totted up the cost of everything except lager and mid-day lunches - i can afford it.

The only thing I'm worried about is being on my own during the day?

You might be on your own for the first day, but after that suggest skiing with the people you meet in the evening. Alternatively, book a couple of ski lessons (at whatever level you are) to meet some people while skiing.

Yep, lessons, guiding or a specialist course are all a fantastic way to meet people of a similar ability.

Definately go on your own. I was on my own for the first time this year. For the days I did ride on my own I enjoyed discovering the mountain and going where I wanted at my pace without having to wait. The only thing missing was chair lift banter!

I also got half a day lesson which was brilliant-wish I done it ages ago.

And as others have said you will always meet up with people and ski in groups as well.

Definately do it and there is loads of snow ATM.

Brill - I would definitely have to have a morning or two's refresher lesson aswell, it usually takes me a couple of hours to get back up to speed.

I'm awaiting the owner of the Hotel getting back to me today with a price.

In the Super Tignes area - I'm guessing theres going to be plenty of people about anyway? On a safety aspect - its not as if I'm going out into the wilderness is it?

I'm actully now coming round to the idea of being free to go at my own pace. I'm not averse to my own company anyway, I'll often go walking or on the MTB on my own.

If I book this, its going to cost me £62 to get from my back door, to the hotel door in Tignes.

So quite a lot cheaper than your 'cheap' deal!

Have a great time, we did last March. The skiing in the Espace Killy was perfect, a big system with plenty of variety in the runs and a ton of snow. We lunched most days at a little cafe on the right of the black 'Rosset' run underneath the Aeroski telecabin. A bowl of freshly made king prawn or chicken noodles/stir fry for about €7. Mind you we got royally shafted in Val with beer at upwards of €7 a pint.
There are loads of Brit skiers/boarders in town, you should easily find someone to ride with. Or as someone suggested join the 'Skiclub' and ski with their guide. I skiied with the guide in Les Arcs a few years back and joined at the end of the week, well worth it if you're going to ski again.

Have a good trip, you're brave opting for the 14 hr bus ride...

Have fun!

Thanks all the snowheads site looks really useful, if not THE slowest website to load in history!

I am going to get in a few hours over here in the next few weeks to get me back up to speed - As I said, I WAS half decent (could ski parrallel nice and smoothly at least, done blacks) but that was many years ago. I will need to fall about for a few hours first before it clicks again I guess.

If im still a bit wobbly they have reccomended a ski school that will take me for a couple of mornings.

As it turns out - I have a mate on the phone to the hotel right now and trying to blag the time off work, so I might not be on my own at all.

Yes, 14 hours is a long time on a bus, but the actual travelling time, from my back door to the hotel, is not that far off flying. And its cheap. I like cheap, cos thats all I can afford. I'm gonna need all the pennies I can save to spend on lunches and muchos evening lagers, by the sounds of it. Woohoo!
