Just purchased a 57 plate high spec X5 which I am well happy with. The pre warmer/defrost option is great.
My question is the CO2 level is just a bit higher than the lower tax band is it possible to Chip/remap the car to lower the CO2 by about6/7 to put the car in the lower band.
I see the car can increase bhp by around 40 and apparently with better mpg.
But would this/could this lower the CO2 and if it did would I be able to pay the lower road tax.
A bit petty I know but hey why not!!

The government will always look at the manufacturer's specifications when setting the tax costs so I doubt you ringing the DVLA and telling them you have remapped it will make much difference. The increase in insurance costs will negate any benefits in any case.

+1.

The CO2 output figure is a nominal one anyway. For example if driver A of your car covers their miles at a steady 70 mph on the motorway they will emit less CO2 per mile than driver B who covers their miles in stop start traffic - same car, different outputs based on fuel consumption alone. Basically therefore the government use the standardised figures per model so whilst it is a nice idea I'm afraid it can be put quickly to bed!!

I take it its one of the last of the non ED models - probably built before Oct 07 or thereabouts?

I had one. I put a tuning box on it from www.tuningbox.com.

Made a huge difference to it. I think it got around 50BHP extra, and could be unplugged in a couple of minutes. There are cheaper around, but i found the tuningbox one to be excellent.
